  • 15+ hrs of video

How it works

Your path to certification eligibility

Five clear steps, from enrolling to submitting your training toward national certification.

  1. 1

    Enroll

Sign up for a full year of access.

  2. 2

    Complete the training

    40 hours, self-paced — 8 sections, 126 video lessons, and 650 practice questions.

  3. 3

    Pass the final exam

Score 85% on the 100-question final exam, with one free re-attempt.

  4. 4

    Earn your certificate

A certificate of completion documenting your 40 training hours.

  5. 5

    Submit for eligibility

Apply it toward CCHI or NBCMI certification eligibility.

Your certificate of completion documents your 40 training hours. It is not the CCHI or NBCMI certification itself — that is earned through the certifying bodies.

Why MLT Academy

Built by professionals, not a side project

This program comes from MultiLingual Technologies, a working language-services company — so the training reflects how medical interpreting is actually practiced.

Built by a language company

Developed by MultiLingual Technologies — 20+ years in professional language services — not a solo-instructor side project.

Professionally produced

126 video lessons and 250+ pages of reference materials, produced to a professional standard.

Recognized by Boostlingo

Boostlingo reviewed the course’s outline and structure — recognition of the course design, not an endorsement of the final materials.

A proven foundation

Built on a program that worked

MLT Academy’s medical interpreter training began as an instructor-led course. We rebuilt it as a self-paced program, keeping the rigor that made the original effective.

Prior instructor-led course 92%
completion-and-pass rate of the earlier, instructor-led version of this course.

This reflects the prior instructor-led course — it is not a CCHI or NBCMI pass rate, and not a guarantee of results in the self-paced program.

Who it’s for

Open enrollment for bilingual adults ready to begin

Whether you’re exploring medical interpreting for the first time or already working in the field, the only prerequisite is bilingual fluency.

Bilingual fluency required

You bring fluency in English and another language. The course builds the interpreting skills from there.

No experience needed

No prior interpreting or medical experience is required to enroll. Beginners are welcome.

English-based, U.S.-focused

Taught in English and focused on U.S. medical interpreting practice, including HIPAA and relevant regulations.

Entirely self-paced

Train on your own schedule, with a full year of access from the day you enroll.

Frequently asked questions

How much is it, and what's included?

Enrollment is $289 for one full year of access — a one-time payment with no auto-renewal. It includes all current course content: 126 video lessons across 8 sections, 650 practice questions, a 100-question final exam, and 250+ pages of reference materials, plus one free re-attempt at the final exam.

Will I be a certified medical interpreter when I finish?

Not automatically. You earn a certificate of completion documenting your 40 training hours, which satisfies the training prerequisite for CCHI and NBCMI certification. The certification itself is earned separately through those certifying bodies. This course prepares you and meets the 40-hour requirement, but it is not the certification.

Do I need any experience to enroll?

No prior interpreting or medical experience is required. The one prerequisite is bilingual fluency: you bring fluency in English and another language, and the course builds the interpreting skills from there.

How long does it take, and is it self-paced?

It is entirely self-paced. The program represents 40 hours of training, and you have a full year of access from the day you enroll, so you can move as quickly or gradually as you like.

What happens if I don't pass the final exam?

You need to score 85% on the 100-question final exam to earn your certificate. Enrollment includes one free re-attempt if you don't pass on your first try.

Are updates included?

Yes. Any updates we make to the course during your enrollment year are included at no extra cost. This is a living course — we don't promise a fixed update schedule, but anything we add while your access is active is yours.

What is your refund policy?

Full details are available on our Refund Policy page.

How is this different from getting certified?

Certification is a credential awarded by CCHI or NBCMI once you meet their requirements — including 40 hours of training — and pass their exam. This course is that 40-hour training: it prepares you and documents the hours you submit toward eligibility. Earning the certification is a separate step you complete through the certifying body.
